Stafford Liberal Democrats are pressing for the M6 widening scheme to be scrapped. They are worried that if it goes ahead the residents of Derrington, Seighford, Hyde Lea, and Creswell will suffer, from more noise and extra pollution.

Candidates in next months Council elections have been told by countless local residents that they are extremely worried that their lives will be badly affected if the M6 is widened. They all are concerned that the extra noise and pollution will be unbearable.

What is difficult to understand is why the Government is even thinking about carrying out the work, as traffic normally flows smoothly on the motorway around Stafford. Instead of carrying out the widening Stafford Liberal Democrats believe the Department of Transport should consider alternatives such as using the hard shoulder as a running lane if traffic does get heavy as this is already being used successfully on the M42 round Birmingham.

Liberal Democrat Councillors on the Borough Council feel so strongly about this issue they have tabled a motion at the next Council meeting asking the whole Council to ask the Government to drop its' widening plans. As always Stafford Liberal Democrats will be fighting hard on behalf of local residents to ensure the environment in this area is not ruined by extra lanes being added to the M6.
