David Seary is worried someone will get hurt during the roadworks on Lichfield Road, Stafford.

Stafford residents are furious about the way contractors working on the new Lichfield Road development are leaving the area in a messy and dangerous state. Cllr David Seary has taken the problem up with the County Council and is insisting something is done to tidy them up.

"I have received a number of complaints from local residents who are worried the pavements next to the site are dangerous. I am particularly concerned for the elderly, young mothers with prams and those on cycles as they are so uneven with manhole covers left sticking up above the temporary surface. There certainly needs to be a tighter inspection especially at the end of the working week to ensure the site is left tidy and safe. To make matters worse cones are being scattered across the pavement and into the road. On one occasion a cyclist was nearly forced under the wheels of a lorry as he tried to avoid one of these cones. There are also a number of contractors advertising boards just left lying about and the security fence close to the junction of Compton Close is loose with screws sticking out. There is also littler all over the place! Not only must something be done before there is a serious accident but also the site wants tiding. I have now written to the County Council Highways Department insisting something is done as a matter of urgency", said David Seary.
