Barry Stamp welcomes police report9.25.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 24th Oct 2006
Barry Stamp, Stafford Constituency Parliamentary Spokesperson, has welcomed the news that Staffordshire Police are the best country according to independent Government inspectors. Speaking just hours after the report "Police Performance Assessments 2005/06" was published by the Home Office Barry said he was delighted that the report confirmed what many already knew from practical experience. "The PPA report which was drawn up by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Police and the Police Standards Unit rated Staffordshire as the No1 force in the country when performance in seven key policing areas was accessed. This just shows how hard everyone in the force has worked over the past twelve months to improve performance and I congratulate everyone involved. However we certainly cannot rest on our laurels. Many Stafford residents are still concerned about youth crime, road safety and excess traffic speeds, and the lack of a visible police presence especially in the rural areas. Hopefully the Chief Constable and his staff will use these results as a stepping stone to improve services even further. I believe every resident of Stafford Constituency deserves to feel safe and secure, and everything must be done to ensure this target is met," said Barry Stamp.
